In 2006, the EVSC Board of School Trustees commissioned MGT of America to look at issues affecting the school district and recommend how it could operate more efficiently and effectively. MGT conducted an in-depth performance review of the following areas of the EVSC:
- District organization and management
- Educational service delivery and performance measures
- Personnel management
- Community involvement
- Facilities use and management
- Asset and risk management
- Financial management
- Purchasing and contract management
- Food service
- Transportation
- Safety and security
- Computers and technology
A number of the suggestions from the study have already been implemented. The improvements to-date have resulted in the EVSC saving nearly $4.5 million, making possible the reallocation of funds to other areas of need.
The corporation has also received nearly $5.5 million in gifts and grants that are being used for further improvements.
To create even greater economies of scale, the EVSC has entered into a joint purchasing agreement with private, parochial, and charter schools in Evansville, as well as city and county governments.
The use of new technology is creating a more efficient workplace. New computer hardware and software programs track supplies and textbooks, communicate with parents through Connect-ED, and store, compile, and manipulate school data to help drive instruction in the schools.
