School Initiative: Equity and Excellence

There must be a focus on equity and excellence for all students within the EVSC.

Regardless of where a student lives, what school he or she attends, or what socio-economic barriers he or she faces, that student must be provided with equitable opportunities and experiences that will allow him or her to be successful.

Programs, opportunities, facilities, technology, and personnel must all be of the highest-quality and reflect a commitment to excellence.

The culture of the EVSC must be one of high expectations for students and of demand for their best efforts in and out of the classroom. At the same time, it must be flexible in order to meet the different needs found within each school.

As the EVSC works toward equity and excellence, the best plans and ideas are coming from its’ teachers, principals, students, and parents. They are growing as a community in their understanding of student needs and are working together to meet those needs through new and realigned programs and innovative school models.

EVSC parents are a key factor in student success, and there must be equity in their ability to be heard. Barriers must be removed.

The EVSC is a vital component in the economic development of Vanderburgh County. Schools rich in equity and excellence are critical in the decision-making process that corporate leaders face when deciding to locate a new business office or manufacturing plant to any area. The culture found within the EVSC schools speaks to what type of workforce can be found in the area.
