EVSC - Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation
School Initiative: Safety and Security
In 2008, the EVSC Board of School Trustees commissioned a report by Michael Dorn, executive director of Safe Havens International and a leading expert on school safety. Dorn spent two weeks working with EVSC staff to identify areas that need safety and security improvements.
Upon completion of the study, the EVSC immediately began to implement Dorn’s recommendations. The EVSC is still in the process of making its facilities safe and secure for students. This work includes correcting transportation issues, improving door and entrance security, and making upgrades to fire alarms and sprinkler systems.
Several of the renovation projects within the EVSC include suggestions made by Dorn, such as the renovation of entrance areas to funnel visitors directly into the school offices before they can access the rest of the facility.
